FEBRUARY 2002 NEW
ZEALAND GETS CUBED UP... Well, sorta. Interesting News for us New Zealanders, the overly low profile Nintendo of New Zealand has initiated its first major promotion for the Gamecube. Nintendo in conjunction with Swiss Maid Dairy Foods are giving away 2 Gamecubes each week from March 4th - May 6th when you buy pots of Swiss Maid's popular ( note: popular with children ) Calci-Yum yoghurt. Under the lid of each pot is a letter from the word Gamecube. If you collect individual letters to spell either GAME or CUBE then you send them in and your name could be drawn as a winner. You can also win Gamecube Games (the titles mentioned are Wave Race : Blue Storm, Luigi's Mansion and Pikmin) and the usual instant prizes like Gameboy Advance's ( ofcourse! ). What makes this especially interesting is that maybe this indicates there are PAL New Zealand working Gamecubes stocking up in the country right now. You may not jump for joy, and certainly the Americans will revel in already owning their Gamecubes, but with no official launch date in New Zealand for the Nintendo Gamecube, this is a good sign that it is coming. And it's coming soon. Perhaps to coincide with the European launch date of May 3rd, which is appropriately around the same time this promotion ends. Hmmmm. A simultaneous European / Australasian Gamecube launch? It's only a speculation until Nintendo of New Zealand get their act together and announce something! Check

: MEGA MAN GETS 2D ON GBA! You
may have noticed in our GBA Wishlist feature, we mentioned how great
it would be to see a 2D traditional styled Mega Man game for the Gameboy
Advace. This wish is sure to be shared by many fans of 'da Man the
world over, and it seems Capcom has announced the answer, Mega Man
Zero. "In Mega Man Zero, Mega Man awakes after 100 years of sleep to a world where reploids are unjustly attacked by an organization called"Neo Arcadia". This new government has turned the world into a place where it is extremely hard for reploids to live and where they are punished for trifling suspicions. Reploids, who have managed to escape from the punishment, flee to an old city which now lies in ruin, but the evil Neo Arcadia's hands are advancing. A genius scientist named Ciel, who lives with the innocent reploids in hopes of saving them, tries to revive the legendary reploid Zero in order to save the cornered reploids. As the hero Zero, it is up to you to save the world. Mega
Man Zero boasts the following features: The most challenging Mega Man game ever? Ouch! Mega Man games have always been extremely difficult. But it sounds like Mega Man Zero is shaping up to be an impressive title, watch for a Japanese release later this year LINKS

JANUARY 2002 MYSTERIOUS
CAPCOM RPG 'BLACK BLACK' FOR GBA
Earlier this week many online news sources reported a new Gameboy Advance RPG was underway by Capcom Japan called something to the tune of Black Black. Impressed by a meager 2 screenshots I set out in search of more information on this mysterious title. Scrambling through a few websites covered in Japanese text I managed to dig up quite a few gems. Take a peek at some of these...
The well informed Planet Gamecube site divulged a few details, stating that the game involved finding and befriending "Mamono" (monsters) then training and breeding them to create offspring which inherit characteristics of their parents. To some it may sound like another Pokemon clone, but it does sound intriguing when you imagine how many combinations of Mamono could be fused. What's more is Capcom's experience in the RPG field, after having 2 GBA installments already in each of their Breath Of Fire and Megaman EXE franchises. Could the game feature connectivity with a Gamecube counterpart? It's pure speculation but is quite possible. The screenshots reveal some interesting tidbits; for example - it appears that you must make the Mamono fall in love with each other to make them breed - not to mention some curious looking creatures (a tiger crossed with a scorpion?) and maybe even pseudo-3D battle backgrounds such as in Golden Sun. To further whet your appetite, I also uncovered some great artwork and animated sprites from the game...

1 - Treestump girl with a flute Wether this strangely titled game reaches shores outside of Japan is yet to be announced, and we'll have to see how the game fares when its released there in February. There's definitely a huge market in America and elsewhere for this kind of game so it's surely possible.

GAMES IN DEVELOPMENT TDK Mediactive Inc, responsible for the current Shrek licensed games and Lady Sia for the Gameboy Advance are bringing the much loved Robotech (aka Macross) franchise to all major next generation consoles including Nintendo's Gamcube and Gameboy Advance, Sony's Playstation 2 and Microsoft's Xbox. While this information was announced at the E3 show earlier in the year, in a recent press statement the southern California based company announced projected release dates for the game titles. "In 2001, the release of hit titles like `Shrek' and critically acclaimed games like `Lady Sia' marked a breakout year for our growing company,'' said Vincent Bitetti, chief executive officer of TDK Mediactive. "With great brands on the horizon, we are confidently moving forward and creating high quality games for future periods.'' Nintendo
Gameboy Advance - 2nd quarter 2002 This comes as great news to the many fans of the cult classic series, as Robotech related video games have been sparse. Details of the individual games are still under wraps, but it is safe to conclude that the GCN, PS2 and Xbox Robotech's will probably be almost identical to each other. TDK Mediactive's past experience and commitment to producing quality software titles should hopefully insure Robotech's success. However, some may argue that the franchise would receive better results from a Japanese game development company. 2002 is looking to be a great year for gamers thats for sure.
